Ever said that phrase to the Lord? I don’t want to be here! Oh yes, I have said that, too. But did you know that the Bible says to pray for the place that you are in? I don’t want to be here, you say. I understand but what if I told you it could change your circumstances.

Let’s look and see what the Bible says:

Jeremiah 29:7 And work for the peace and prosperity of the city where I sent you into exile. Pray to the Lord for it, for its welfare will determine your welfare.”

The children of Israel were taken into captivity into Babylon. They were captives and they were not free. Have you ever worked somewhere that you just did not like, maybe the people were mean or they did not pay you well? What would you do if God told you to pray for those people? Would you pray?

Pray for the peace and prosperity

How can you pray when you are in a place that you hate? First, tell God how you feel about the place. He already knows but it does you good to get it off your chest. Second, ask God to give you a prayer that you can pray for your circumstances. Ask Him to bless the circumstance that you are in. Maybe you are in a marriage that is not the best, then ask God to bless your spouse. Ask Him to show you the good things about your spouse.

Attitudes are everything

As our attitude changes about a situation, God can begin to work. Our negative attitudes and words bring about negative responses in our life.

Remember, the Bible says that life and death are in the tongue. You speak words of life over your circumstances and you will bring about a positive change. However, if you speak negative words over your circumstances you will bring about negative responses in your life.

The power of speaking over your plants

There have been scientific studies on the power of speaking to your house plants. My grandmother used to talk to her African Voilets. She had the most beautiful plants. I had always thought it was her green thumb. But after reading some scientific studies on the power of words, I am sure the positive words she was speaking and singing over them had a lot to do with it.

Let me tell you a story

When my husband and I married, he owned a small house in a very small rural town. Now I did not want to live in a small town. I had grown up in the city and enjoyed all that city life had to offer. My husband however, loved this house and everything that it stood for. It became a source of great contention between us.

Over the years, we rented out the house and eventually paid it off. In 2010 we had some less than desirable people decide that paying rent was something that they did not want to do. So long story short, we had to evict them and go to court. When we got the house back it was demolished on the inside. Walls were torn out and holes cut in the floor. They also had a lovely Python snake they had left in the house.

With the snake removed from the house, I was finally able to return to it. So started the work to remodel the house with the intent to sale it. But we did not sell it we now live in the small town and I love being here.

I don’t want to be here

All those years that I had prayed that God would change my husband’s mind about the house, well He changed mine. I had talked to God so many times about that house. I had talked so bad about that house and now I live in it and love living here.

You see I had talked so negatively about that house for so many years, I now wonder if we would have had less problems with it if my attitude had been different. Maybe if I had prayed for the house and the people that rented the house then we might have had better renters. Just a thought.

Back to Jeremiah 29:7

God is instructing us to be pray for the peace and prosperity of the place that we are in. My friend, He knows where you are and all that you are going through. He is more than able to deliver you out of your circumstances. I think in our society where everything is instant we want instant results. Maybe for whatever reason God has a purpose for you being where you are.

I can look back over my life and see so many hard places that I have walked through but God brought me through them. Some were hard places that I walked into but God delivered me from them. I can remember crying and feeling so alone but God was there even in the worst of places.

Is God calling you to pray for the place that you are in? Is He asking you to pray for the peace and prosperity of that place or people?

In one job that I had the people were really not nice. The office politics were the worst I have ever seen. People were fighting and back stabbing all the time. One day in church the Lord instructed me to go in early the next day and pray over the building. It was a manufacturing plant and it was a pretty big building. Well, the next morning I went and prayed over the whole building then went to my office to prepare the financials for the board meeting. I have to say that was the easiest board meeting I had ever been a part of at that company.

God was teaching me about my kingdom authority that He has given all the followers of Jesus Christ. We were given power by Jesus to speak into our circumstance and call those things that are not as if they were. This come from Romans 4:17. So here in the New Testament we see that God is telling us the same basic idea. Speak to our circumstances and call them to alignment with His word.

In conclusion

So, my friend are you ready to pray for peace for the circumstance that you are in right now? If so, please leave a comment below and I would love to pray and agree with you in prayer for the love of God and the peace that surpasses all understanding to fill your life. If you would like information about how to hear God’s voice go Here.

Many blessings,

Debbie
